How to stop the sidebar

The sidebar from Windows Vista is gone in Windows 7 – or is it? Actually, it still runs in the background to display your gadgets. What if you don’t use gadgets? Chances are, the sidebar service is still running and using up system resources. You can get rid of it for good if you don’t need it. Here’s how:

  1. Open your registry editor.
  2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run
  3. In the right pane, right click the Sidebar value and select Delete.
  4. Close the registry editor.
